International Trade & Exports

Colorado's central location, which includes the exact midpoint between Tokyo and Frankfurt on the 105th meridian, makes it a great location for conducting international business. This unique location provides access by air and satellite communications to Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Colorado also boasts "one-bounce" satellite uplinks that provide real-time connections to seven continents in one business day.

Colorado is also strategically located between Canada and Mexico, allowing Colorado companies to capitalize on North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) opportunities.

The State of Colorado, along with the rest of the nation, has benefited from greater international demand and stronger foreign currencies, which make American products more competitive.  In 2006, Colorado exports reached $8 billion, breaking the state's previous record of $6.8 billion in 2005, and export sales are continuing at a strong pace in 2007 as well.  It is estimated that international exports sustain at least 65,000 jobs in Colorado.

Colorado is also an important location for foreign investment. Foreign-controlled companies in Colorado employ more than 71,400 people, own nearly $16.1 billion in gross property, plant, and equipment, own $2.4 billion in commercial property.
